As
someone integrally involved in San Diego's design, construction and facilities
management market, you are invited to join us at the inaugural event of the
newly-established buildingSMART
San Diego. This kick-off workshop titled "Retooling San Diego's
Construction Industry for Collaboration and Technology" begins a local
industry conversation about the new integration of collaborative and
technologically smart design and construction as a means of assuring a
sustainable future for our built environment. In the months to come, we will
present to you methodologies to deliver construction projects at lower cost, in
less time, and with better quality using a strategic lifecycle approach to
planning, design, construction, commissioning, operating, and maintaining smart
buildings.
buildingSMART San Diego's mission is "to support the work of the national buildingSMART
alliance (bSa) by advancing the use of interoperable, open-standards and a
building information modeling (BIM) data exchange using integrated project
delivery (IPD) methods. Through education, advocacy, and networking,
buildingSMART San Diego will begin to establish a new business culture among
the architecture, engineering, construction trades, management, ownership, and
facility services communities in concert with the broader national bSA purpose
of "coordinating profound constructive changes needed in our fragmented
real property industry in North America." We will teach you about
the business of BIM, interoperability, open standards, the collaborative
process, and the lifecycle approach to building SMART.
The
event detailed below will feature a keynote address by David Morris, Director
of the national buildingSMART Alliance, Chair of the National
BIM Standard (NBIMS) Committee, and Director of Virtual Design and
Construction for EMCOR Group, followed by a panel discussion by industry
leaders moderated by founding buildingSMART San Diego Chair, Phil Bona, AIA.

we look forward to joining with you in this ongoing transformative enterprise.
The event is free (except for an optional $10 lunch), but preregistration for
